Herringbone in vinyl delivers classic parquet geometry where a wooden herringbone would struggle: the kitchen, bathroom or hallway. Vinyl is 100 % waterproof, so the pattern can run through the whole home with no switch to tiles in the wet zones. The construction matches regular vinyl: rigid-core SPC click blocks about 5–5,5 mm thick with built-in underlay, or glue-down LVT at 2–3 mm bonded straight to a levelled subfloor. Some products state a wear layer of ~0,5 mm and usage class 23/33, so the floor also suits hard-working and commercial spaces. Both types suit underfloor heating. How many square metres should I order for a herringbone pattern?
Herringbone is laid at an angle, so more offcuts accumulate along the walls than with straight planks — budget the allowance generously. The m² calculator gives an exact figure for your room dimensions. Remember that the minimum flooring order is 20 m² — samples and accessories are exempt.
Does herringbone vinyl suit heated floors?
Yes, both SPC click and glue-down LVT suit underfloor heating. The glue-down version is just 2–3 mm thick, so heat passes through quickly; SPC click blocks are about 5–5,5 mm with built-in underlay. The practical details are in our article on vinyl for heated floors.
What separates glue-down and click herringbone?
