Planed boards differ from the rest in how the surface is worked: instead of being sanded perfectly smooth, the face is shaped with a plane, leaving a gentle ripple you can feel barefoot. The practical benefit is simple — fine scratches and everyday wear show far less on a textured face than on a smooth board, which is why this option is often chosen for hallways, living rooms and homes with pets. The catalogue currently holds 16 planed designs, all in three-layer European oak.

The construction matches the rest of the range: a 14–15 mm board with a 3 mm or 4 mm oak top layer that can be sanded and renewed in the future. A planed surface pairs best with an oiled finish — it leaves the relief free of any film and allows local repairs; we weigh the finishes in our article on oiled versus lacquered boards. Installation is click or glue-down; over water-based underfloor heating we recommend gluing the boards to the subfloor.

Before ordering, measure up and confirm the quantity with the m² calculator — the minimum flooring order is 20 m². If you are torn between planed and smooth, order up to 3 free samples and compare the textures under your own lighting; orders are delivered across the EU within 5–10 working days.

Frequently asked questions

What practical edge does a planed surface have over a smooth, sanded one?
The textured face scatters light, so fine scratches, dust and footprints show less than on a smooth board. A planed surface also lends the floor a handcrafted character that sits especially well with a natural oiled finish. The one difference in upkeep: dust can gather in the hollows, so a vacuum with a soft brush head is the better cleaning tool.
Can planed boards be laid over underfloor heating?
Yes — three-layer engineered oak suits water-based underfloor heating, and the surface texture has no bearing on heat transfer. In that case we recommend gluing the boards to the subfloor rather than laying them floating. Temperature regimes and installation details are covered in our guide to engineered boards for heated floors.
How do I work out how many planed boards to order?
Enter your room dimensions into the m² calculator and add a cutting allowance — the exact method for each laying pattern is in our guide on calculating parquet quantities. Note that the minimum flooring order is 20 m²; samples and accessories are exempt.
Can I feel the planed texture before buying?
Yes — we send up to 3 free parquet samples, so you can set the planed surface directly against a smooth one. Orders are delivered across the EU within 5–10 working days: delivery costs 129.95 € and is free from 2 000 €. A showroom is planned for the end of 2026 — until then, samples are the easiest way to judge the texture.
